Este projeto fotográfico sucede a um contacto prolongado com Alvaredo, consequência de uma relação cultivada com tempo e atenção junto destas pessoas. O trabalho encontra o seu momento fulcral durante um fim de semana de celebração: a festa de São João.
Depois de publicar o livro Labuta - trabalho realizado em residência - a vontade de voltar a Alvaredo foi imperativa. Junto com o Daniel Maciel, acompanhámos esta festividade.
Alvaredo é um lugar exótico para a fotografia, um exotismo que transparece verdade e paixão por um território. Aqui, os seus habitantes trabalham dia e noite. É visível uma árdua vontade de ocupar e dar a conhecer, de construir e gravar nas suas gentes um movimento cultural.
Um vaguear pelas estradas, terreiros e caminhos, pelas vidas que preenchem um espaço de tempo com sentido / consomem tempo com um sentido. Tudo é feito em prol do outro, da vontade de reunião, num calor vivo e originário de uma memória que procura ser constantemente ativada. Esta festa é um espelho desta procura, da relação íntima e familiar que os habitantes constroem entre si.
Um dos camiões que animaria uma das noites sofre uma avaria e pernoita no acesso ao recinto. Para muitos isto seria uma derrota, em Alvaredo um desafio. Este simples acontecimento mostrou uma forma colaborativa de fazer acontecer, onde a vontade ultrapassa todas as barreiras da falha ou da desistência.
Alvaredo não é apenas uma freguesia, é um lugar que vive das pessoas que, com os seus gestos quotidianos, fazem dele uma celebração, um território de trabalho e afetos.
This photographic project is the result of prolonged contact with Alvaredo, the consequence of a relationship cultivated with time and attention among these people. The work finds its pivotal moment during a weekend of celebration: the festivities of St. John.
After publishing the book Labuta - work carried out in residence - the desire to return to Alvaredo was imperative. Together with Daniel Maciel, we accompanied this festivity.
Alvaredo is an exotic place for photography, an exoticism that reveals truth and passion for a territory. Here, its inhabitants work day and night. There is a visible arduous desire to occupy and make known, to build and engrave a cultural movement in its people.
A wander through the roads, terraces, and paths, through the lives that fill a space of time with meaning / consume time with meaning. Everything is done for the sake of others, for the desire to come together, in a lively warmth that originates from a memory that seeks to be constantly activated. This festival is a mirror of this search, of the intimate and familiar relationship that the inhabitants build among themselves.
One of the trucks that would entertain one of the nights breaks down and spends the night at the entrance to the venue. For many, this would be a defeat, but in Alvaredo, it is a challenge. This simple event showed a collaborative way of making things happen, where willpower overcomes all barriers of failure or giving up.
Alvaredo is not just a parish, it is a place that thrives on the people who, with their everyday gestures, make it a celebration, a place of work and affection.
